Curious about a career in speech-language pathology? Come see what it's really like.
Are you a student considering a career in speech-language pathology or a related field? At Advance Speech, we believe in supporting the next generation of professionals by offering opportunities to observe, learn and gain real-world experience through volunteer and job shadow roles.
Our job shadow program is designed to give you meaningful exposure to the field, from seeing children in play-based sessions to observing adult therapy in the community. We also aim to provide a behind-the-scenes look at what speech-language pathologists actually do.
What You’ll Experience
Observation of pediatric and adult sessions
Exposure to in-home, online, and community-based therapy
Opportunities to learn about specialized areas when available (e.g. swallowing, neurorehab)
Informal advice and feedback from practicing clinicians
Who It’s For
These opportunities are best suited for:
Students considering a career in speech-language pathology
People preparing to apply for graduate programs
Anyone curious about working in communication or rehabilitation fields
We’re looking for individuals who are respectful, eager to learn, and ready to show up with curiosity and professionalism.
If you're interested in volunteering or shadowing with Advance Speech, please email jeff@advancespeech.ca with a brief note about who you are, what you're hoping to learn, and when you're available.
We'll be happy to explore whether there's a good fit and what opportunities might be available.
